From November 30 to December 12, leaders, dignitaries and delegates from governments, industry and the broader international community will convene in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to discuss global emissions goals and align on pathways to accelerate progress during what is sure to be the year’s most significant climate conference, COP28.
COP28 President-designate, UAE’s Special Envoy for Climate Change and ADNOC Group CEO Dr. H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al-Jaber, said COP28 is an opportunity “to rethink, reboot and refocus the climate agenda.”
Nabors’ Vision for the Energy Transition
“Energy Without Compromise” is the vision guiding Nabors’ energy transition efforts and a message it will amplify at COP28 events. Ultimately, Nabors views three critical paths to managing the energy transition:
- Embrace energy innovation over energy exclusion: Supporting hydrocarbons and renewables while eliminating the tradeoffs between them.
- Capitalize on strengths and adjacencies: Seeking opportunities to apply skills and competencies to advance other industries.
- Collaborate to accelerate progress: Working together and leveraging collective strengths to decarbonize faster.
Building a sustainable economy requires affordable, reliable and responsible energy. Understanding that no single source consistently delivers all three, Nabors sees its future embracing hydrocarbons and cleaner energy sources while removing the tradeoffs between them.
Renewables offer greener power, but supporting the future economy requires eliminating their intermittency while balancing cost, efficiency and supply chain challenges.
Nabors’ energy transition investments, across geothermal, concentrated solar power, alternative energy storage, emissions monitoring, hydrogen and advanced materials, aim to deliver clean, renewable, scalable, baseload energy.
Oil and gas provide affordable and reliable energy, but the industry must address the emissions.
AI-based engine management software, fuel enhancers, highline power solutions, energy storage and a forthcoming hydrogen injection system, are just a few technologies Nabors deploys to lower drilling emissions. This portfolio is active on three continents and also used in offshore operations and completions jobs.
Schedule of Events: Where to Find Nabors at COP28
Before attending the conference, take time to watch a replay of the November 28 “Leaders in Sustainability Roundtable – Leading up to COP28”:
- Guillermo Sierra, Nabors VP of Strategic Initiatives – Energy Transition, and other leaders gathered for the Leaders in Sustainability round table with Oil & Gas Middle East. This panel brought together industry leaders to discuss some pressing sustainability concerns they face today. In the run-up to COP 28 in Dubai, this gathering brought a timely discussion on how sustainability practices affect two of the most significant industries in the Middle East: oil and gas and construction. Watch the replay here.
There are several opportunities to listen and engage with Nabors’ Dubai team at COP28, so mark your calendars and plan to attend!
Tuesday, December 5: Interview with “Energy Connects”
- Nabors leaders will meet and engage with stakeholders at the COP28 Green Zone. Mr. Sierra will also appear on “Energy Connects” to discuss Nabors’ recent energy transition efforts and investments.
Thursday, December 7: Panelist at Reuters Energy Transition MENA 2023
- Reuters Energy Transition MENA 2023 is hosting a conference around COP28 where energy leaders will discuss the region’s roadmap to net zero. The goal is to combine efforts and create lasting partnerships. Nabors Chief Financial Officer William Restrepo will join executives from ADNOC and Mubadala for a panel discussion about how national energy companies can take control of transition narratives to become drivers of change and be the backbones supporting the growth of local communities.
